With stunning views over the Mont Dore and the Cantal mountain range , Sourniac is a site of interesting history and heritage.
It prides itself on one of the most charming manor houses of the Haute Auvergne: the Chateau de Sourniac, set in romantic grounds. It was built in 1636 on the remnants of a house destroyed by fire, and it boasts 3 towers in the shape of peppermills. Straight opposite is a remarkable Romanesque Chapel dedicated to St. Amand. It is a small building with no ornamental features, mentioned in the 12thc., and it was largely altered in the 19th c. A santing stone of 2m high for a diameter of 65cm is at the boundary of Arches and Sourniac.
