The village of Boudes was once a fortified town. However, it's location in the heart of the wine producing area makes the visitor want to linger a little more... Admire the old houses with their genoese style roofs (gendarme's cap) which cannot be seen elsewhere. The new generation of wine producers has given a new life to the succulent local Boudes wine.
The many wine-growing houses of Boudes testify to the wine-growing tradition of this village. Today, the cellars of the Boudes winegrowers show that this tradition is still relevant today.
Nestled in the heart of a small valley, Boudes also preserves the remains (gates, curtains) of an old polygonal fort, and the ruins of a keep containing an old fireplace. The church houses a 15th century Virgin and Child.
If you are in Boudes, don't miss the visit of one of the highlights of the Pays d'Issoire: the vallée des Saints and its fairy chimneys carved in red clay.
