The Puy Griou, a cone-shaped peak of phonolite rock, is one of the marvels of Auvergne’s volcanic past. The rock makes a ringing sound when struck. This emblematic summit is at 1,690 m and offers a spectacular panorama!
There are several hiking trails to get to the Puy Griou. One option is to start from the hamlet of Les Chazes near St Jacques des Blats (Estimated walk of 2 ¾ hours – Yellow PR marking). Another option is to set off from the Col de Font de Cère (Estimated walk of 4 hours – Green PR marking). Finally you can also get to the Puy Griou by starting from the village of St Jacques des Blats (Estimated walk of 6 hours – Green PR marking).
