The fortified village of Sauvagnat Sainte-Marthe

Partage :

Near the A75 motorway, Sauvagnat is an old fortified town surrounded by hills and basalt plateaus. Here, the pink sandstones extracted from the basement set the tone for the village.

It’s a southern village surrounding a district classified since 1947. Here, the colour set the tone around the use of pink sandstone extracted from the subsoil. Discover the fortified door and the small streets that serve the narrow and adjacent storey houses. Some have benefited from a cared realisation and present doors with a lintel sculpted with a brace and windows with sleepers datable from the 15th – 16th century. Elsewhere in the village, opulent houses with tidy frontage testify from the wine-growing success from the 19th century.
