Le château de Champeix relève d'une branche célèbre des comtes d'Auvergne, les Dauphins. Il subsiste aujourd'hui la base du donjon circulaire roman et l'ancienne église castrale, ainsi qu'un porche remanié.
Thanks to the armorial of Revel, we have a representation of the castle at the 15th century, before that it was abandoned by the Dauphins and their heirs, demolished in the 17th century and given up to degradation. The castle was protected by a wall that fitted closely the shape of the relief and whose low wall lining the patio of Saint-Jean church could carry on the route. Below, there was in the 15th century a vast enclosed pot of vine. Then, the inhabitants set up, on this well-exposed slope, terraces of culture, later abandoned.
