Sur les hauteurs de Combronde

Departure point: Opposite the town hall, turn right. Turn left into rue Saint Genès. At the fork in the road, go up to the left and then turn left into rue du Général Desaix (D412). Turn right into rue des Dunchères, which continues along a track. At the T-junction, turn left. Continue until you reach a road which you turn left onto to cross the motorway bridge. Go through Banson along the main street (rue du Four) (shoeing loom and well). On leaving the village, at the Banson sign, take the road to the right as far as the last house.

1 - Just after the last house, turn right onto a wide track. Ignore 2 paths on the left. At the T-junction, continue uphill to the left. At the plateau, there is a view of the Gergovie plateau and Riom. When you reach the equestrian centre, go straight on until you reach a road. Turn right onto this road. At the fork, follow the
left to the first track on the right.

2 - Take it. At the crossroads, go right. Go past a hamlet (Le Mas). At the crossroads, go left. At the fork in the road, at the entrance to a hamlet (La Brousse), continue to the right. At the stop sign, turn right onto the D409. Follow the first track on the left (view of La Limagne, the Monts du Bourbonnais, du Forez and du Livradois). At the next crossroads (view of the Chaîne des Puys), climb left (panoramic view) to the top of the hill.

3 - Turn right and walk down to a wide track. Follow it to the left. At Chalusset, turn left onto the road and drive over the dyke of a pond. At the crossroads, turn right and after 100 m, go left (with a view of the Chaîne des Puys) as far as the first house in Les Borots.

4 - Take the road to the left (rue du Bouchet). It soon becomes a footpath (view over the Limagne plain). Cross the road and continue straight ahead. 150m further on, leave the main track and go straight ahead. At the first fork in the road, turn right. Ignore the paths on the left until you reach a wide track. Go left
left and join a road Go down it (Chemin des Borots) until you reach a crossroads. Go down to the right and take the Chemin des Combes. At the crossroads, take the left-hand path. Cross the stream. At the road, turn left. At the bridge (cross dating from 1646), turn right onto the path alongside the stream. At the road, turn right. At the crossroads, turn left into rue du Général Desaix. At the end of the square, turn right and then immediately left to take the passage du Marché Déat. Turn right into the Grand Rue. Pass the Place du Maréchal Fayolle (former covered market, house with dovecote) and turn left to reach the start sign.
