In the heart of the village of Monistrol-sur-Loire you will discover the gorges of Bilhard, a place renowned for peace and tranquility.
This is an area which is steeped in history and it’s most remarkable landmark is , without question, the ancient Mill of Confluent which was still in use up as far as the 1930s.
This calm and beautiful nature is overlooked by Le Château des Evêques (the Bishops’ Castle).
The rich flora which populates the region is also a huge attraction. The Tourist Office organizes regular botanic excursions to the Gorges of Bilhard.
If you do decide to visit the Gorges of Bilhard, don’t forget your fishing rod. Just like all the other waters in Les Marches du Velay, the Gorges of Bilhard is brimming with fish and is an ideal location for a spot of fishing.
