Bordered by several rivers, the Saint-Illide plateau marks the transition between the volcanic mountains to the east and the old crystalline plateaux of the Limousin to the west.
The village of St-Illide is located at an altitude of 625m. At the 1999 census, the municipality had a population of some 670, often referred to as ‘Saint-Illidois’ or ‘Miraliers’, the district covers 39.71km².
