If each district of Chaudes-Aigues is placed under the protection of a Saint, the entire city is entrusted to Our Lady of Pity (Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows) whose coronation was authorized by Pope Leo XIII in 1879. The chapel possesses an older Pieta, with an enlarged copy in the parish church.
Two legends evoking, one a mysterious knight, the other a miraculous apparition, are attached to the Chapel which remains a place of pilgrimage very frequented.
