Guided tour. Built at the beginning of the 13th century on a limestone hillock, partially modified and completed in the 15th century, the castle is composed of a castral core of nine towers (three of which are partly destroyed), surrounded by a circular enclosure.
The visit presents the history of the fortress, the methods of construction in connection with the local resources and the evolution of the defense systems from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Three great families in the history of France and the Bourbonnais region lived here and left their mark by adapting this place to the life of their time: visible traces testify to this. The panoramas on the Forterre are exceptional. The site is managed by CACIAURA, an association of the national movement "Études et Chantiers" which organizes international volunteer workcamps every summer to save the building. This is the ideal time to visit the monument and the restoration site. Classified as a historic monument, the castle has a triple interest: architectural, historical and educational.
