Massif du Lizieux

The Lizieux massif is classified as a Natura 2000 area and as a "Volcanoes in Freedom" site. It is home to roe deer, wild boar, marten, ermine and over 100 species of birds, as well as rare species such as the European beaver and pearl mussels.

Lizieux peak:
The Haut-Lignon has a crystalline surface covered on its western side by volcanic formations: the 12.7 million-year-old Lizieux peak.
Viscous lava flow and lava dome. It represents the exit point of a viscous lava flow that spread out on either side to form the plateau at its base.
From the summit, surrounded by scree from the last Ice Age, you can enjoy a superb 360° panorama of the Mézenc and Meygal mountain ranges.

Hiking on the massif :
- Sentier de Bonas or PR 639 1.5 hr hike (AR), 4.7 km, with a sometimes steep gradient, follow the signposts. Bring a leaflet available from the tourist office and the ONF guide "Le sentier de Bonas au pic du Lizieux".
- Circuit du Lizieux or PR 33, 4h15 walk, 13.5 km, starting from Saint-Voy church. Ask for the description at the tourist office.

Accessible to all, suitable walking shoes required.
Orientation table at summit.
Access: from Chalet du Lizieux, D7 from St-Jeures, D42 from Araules.
Parking de Chieze (west-facing slope): tables and bi-cross course.
