Le Puy-en-Velay, Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO

Partage :

Le Puy-en-Velay lies to the south-east of the Massif Central. It is the starting point for the “Via Podiensis”, a trail leading to Santiago de Compostela. Above all, it is an exceptional site. The town has been preserved from the ravages of time and has plenty of surprises in store for visitors.

The town of Le Puy-en-Velay stands in a green setting, where water and fire have sculpted the surprising natural features and mankind has celebrated the beauty of art. The upper town is in a listed sector and has a great many historic and architectural treasures. Along with the impressive cathedral built on the slopes of Mont Anis and listed by UNESCO, the cloister is also well worth a visit. This is one of the most beautiful and best-conserved Romanesque cloisters in Europe and dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Le Puy is the European capital of the Way of St James. At Le Camino, pilgrims have access to a reception and information site, as well as a museum and a visit on the theme of the pilgrimage.
