This village is especially known for its church that is listed as a National Historic Monument.
The origins of the name Monjou go back to Gallo-Roman times when a temple devoted to Jupiter was built on a mount there. There was once a castle here that was mentioned as far back as 1261 belonging to the De Montjou family.
