The impregnable Polignac Fortress is a striking sight. It is one of the most majestic sites in France.
It has a unique defensive system. A courtyard, a main courtyard and a 32-metre-high keep are the main features to be seen during a visit with 14 points of interest introducing visitors to the magnificent 3-hectare site.
King François I visited the fortress in 1533. The owners, many of whom were to leave their mark on French history, left the castle in the 17th century and moved to Chateau Lavoûte Polignac. The family included the Duchess of Polignac, a courtier of Marie-Antoinette, as well as Cardinal de Polignac, the French ambassador to Poland and Rome, and Prince Jules de Polignac, a minister of King Charles X.
The site is a delight for the eyes from the outside, and from inside provides a unique unique over the region.
