Partage :

Open every day in July and August. Audio-guide visits available. The rest of the year, please ask for the key at the Voyageurs restaurant-hotel.

Romanesque-style building dating from the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries. Large choir and a high, unique nave, Romanesque-style apse and sculpted capitals.

The church was built over three periods during the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1840 (this was the first list of historic monuments to be made in France and included 1034 monuments.)
Saint-George’s Church was built with large cut stones. The masonry features a fine multi-coloured effect resulting from the combination of white, grey, black, beige, brown, pink and purple blocks.
Three paintings depicting the life of Saint Georges, the first bishop of Velay, are also well worth seeing. The machicolations, the wall walk and other defensive elements are reminders that this was a fortified church. The bell tower was restored in the 17th century and a spire was added in the 19th century.
