Church Saint-Pierre

Partage :

The church is dedicated to Saint Peter, with a single nave of two bays and several stained glass windows dating from the late 19th century.

The church is placed under the vocation of Saint Peter, frequently represented as an old man, tall, strong and bearded. He holds one or several keys or sometimes a book. Under the Ancien Régime, the parishes of Luneau and Lurcy (now disappeared) depended on the diocese of Autun.
Threatened with ruin at the end of the 18th century, the church was not restored until 1869.
In spite of important modifications (nave, bays, high parts of the bell tower), it seems that the building has kept its Romanesque structure.
The church is composed of a single nave of two bays, extended by a choir bay and a hemicycle apse. If the nave has lost its Romanesque character, the eastern parts have retained their primitive aesthetic.
The choir bay, vaulted with groins, is delimited by two large round arches. The abcide, vaulted in cul-de-four, is illuminated by three strongly splayed bays.
The church has several stained glass windows, made at the end of the XIXth century, representing some of the most venerated saints by the popular piety; Saint-Hyppolite, Saint-Barthélémy, Saint-Louis, Saint-Joseph, Sainte-Anne and Saint-François de Sales.
