Rochelambert Castle is open all the year round.
Rochelambert Castle is perched on a basalt cliff, the remains of an extinct volcano. The castle can boast a unique private collection of art works, Romanesque and Gothic sculptures, tapestries, paintings and furniture from the 12th to the 19th century. The oldest recorded traces of human presence in Europe were found in this area and it has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic era. The Rochelambert family lived here from the 12th century. The castle was burned down by the Huguenots led by Sieur de Blacon in 1562. It was then rebuilt by Marquis François de La Rochelambert and his wife Hélène de Lestrange during the Renaissance. George Sand briefly stayed here in the 19th century.
The castle is filled with charm. It fires the imagination with marvellous legends and adventurous tales of chivalry. Rochelambert is the castle where the princess lives in the tales written by Perrault. The mere mention of Sleeping Beauty is enough to bring our childhood imaginations to life.
