The Beaume Waterfall, A refreshing outing to a spectacular site! The waterfall is near the village of Agizoux, at an altitude of 900 metres, between Solignac-sur-Loire and Le Brignon along the RD 54 road.
Lava flows - the basalt valley. The path takes you between dark rock walls formed by ancient lava flows that produced the volcanic plateau overhead. After thousands of years, the stream dug down deep, leaving only the imposing cliffs, with the volcanic basalt columns towering above. The waterfall site shows how the stream eroded the big rocky mass, with the volcanic columns as a reminder that the grey basalt rock was once molten lava. Follow the road signs from Solignac. Car park at the site entrance. A round-trip on foot takes 40 minutes from the REYNARDON car park and a 10.5 km round-trip leaving from Solignac-sur-Loire takes 2 hrs 50 mins. Difficulty: average. Hiking trail leaflet on sale for €1 from the Puy-en-Velay tourist office.
From the REYNARDON car park: 40 minutes.
