Description détaillée

On the small ridge roads along this route, you can admire the rich built heritage that is so characteristic of this part of the Châtaigneraie. You'll notice the traditional granite houses and barns covered in schist, as well as all the remarkable little buildings (wells, fountains, ovens, chicken coops, secadous). After La Salvetat (a former commandery of the Order of Malta), you'll discover the village of Marcolès, whose present-day heart is a small medieval village that has preserved the remains of its ramparts, two entrance gates and a series of alleyways known as "carriérons", which are a delight to wander through. The Rance Gorge and its famous "Trou du Diable" (Devil's Hole) will take you to Boisset, then along the valleys to the pond of Moulin du Teil in Le Rouget. On the way back, stop off at the miraculous spring at the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Bourniou before discovering the restored villages of Glénat, Pers and Omps. Finally, on the way back to Saint-Mamet, don't forget to climb mount Puy Saint-Laurent for a panoramic view of the Mounts of Cantal.
