Heritage walking trail in Montsalvy.
Discover a medieval village rich in ecclesiastical heritage and southern local history. The story begins with the monk Gausbert who founded a church, a hospice and a monastery in the 11th century. At that time, the land was bordered by four crosses and Saint Gausbert created a "sauveté": a territory that guaranteed ecclesiastical immunity to those who took refuge there! The town then took its name of Mons salutatis, “salvation mountain”, or Mons Salvii, “mount of the saved”.
