This real country walk, embellished with pretty views and freshness between the river and ponds, leads the hiker to discover a rich past, castles and beautiful bourgeois residences.
Be careful during hunting periods.
1-Cross the square in front of the town hall, along the left side of the walls of the Château de la Boulaize. Go up in the direction of the church (bell tower with comb, bell from 1403, Roman portal and two carved wooden statues), go past it. Then continue to climb by a grassy path which widens, cross a plantation of pines, descend (curves to the right) and 500m further, join the D 172, take it to the left to cross the Rivière des Moulins and reach homes.
2-Take a left onto the Peulins access path. Leave the farm to continue straight on along a grassy path. At the crossroads, turn left, go over a footbridge and reach a road.
3-Follow it to the right to the hamlet of Aragons. Then turn left, then left again at the next fork. Go past Place Crot.
4-On the left, join La Roche, cross the river again (fording) and go around the houses by the small path on the right (on the right, an old mill), then walk along the ponds. On the road, go to the left, pass two ponds, then the castle of Poncenat (residence of the captain of Poncenat, leader of Huguenot reputed during the wars of religion).
5-Just after a barn, turn left onto a stony path, leave it at the first grassy path on the right and descend between fields. Arrival at the foot of the Ciernat chapel.
6-Walk to the left for 200m, then take a stony path on the right. At the houses, take the small road to the right which leads to the D 172; go up on the left to the hamlet of La Sabotière.
7-At the top of the hill, go right between the houses to arrive on the plateau (beautiful views). Go down, turn left and join the D 32; follow it to the left to return to the place of departure (to the right of the place, the Riage house and its dovecote, as well as the medieval castle).
