Sainte-Anne Church

Partage :

Free visit. Consecrated to Saint Anne, the church has existed since the XI-XII century. Originally the sanctuary of a Benedictine priory which gave its name to the village (Monte Acuto), and dependent on the abbey of Souvigny, it has been reworked over the centuries.

It was enlarged in the 19th century to reach its present size and shape. Its Romanesque nave with four bays ends in the east with a five-sided chevet dating from the 15th century. Some capitals from the Romanesque period remain as well as the semicircular door of the façade. The bell tower with a comb has in its middle a bell classified MH offered to the parish in 1403 by Audin de Rollat, companion in arms of Jean de Montaigu. The furniture includes two polychrome wooden statues: a Virgin of Pity from the 18th century (ISMH) and a statue of Saint Anne from the 16th century (ISMH).
