Sainte-Catherine Church

Partage :

Free visit. The church, which dates from the second half of the 12th century, has a nave of three unequal bays with a square sanctuary and a flat chevet.

The choir is flanked, on the left, by a Romanesque bell tower and a small 15th century chapel with an ogival vault that has become the sacristy; on the right, a vast chapel built around 1868 for the châtelains de la Forêt. The oldest part is the bell tower, square at its base, octagonal at the height of the windows. It is surmounted by an elegant wooden spire with a slate roof and a weathervane at the top (rooster). The facade is lit by three windows that overhang a rustic porch called in Bourbonnais a "caquetoire"; this slate-covered shelter dates from the 16th century.
