Visit with audioguide. Following the discovery of the cave of the Fairies in the 19th century and the men of Neanderthal who lived there 42,000 years ago, Châtelperron makes of the Allier a prehistoric territory renowned.
It is a doubly eponymous site since it gave its name to a tool called "tip or knife of Châtelperron" and to a prehistoric culture, the Châtelperronien, which marks its entry into the upper Palaeolithic. Prehistorama traces the lives of these men on a daily basis through scenographic reconstructions, video sequences explaining the different sizes of flint tools and the exhibition of various objects. A documentation centre allows the consultation of books.
