Église et site archéologique du Chastel

Partage :

Old chapel, the church attached to the first gothic period in the 12th century. It contains a remarkable fresco representing the family of a lord of Saint-Floret of the end of the 12th century. The graveyard surrounding the church is dominated by a pyramidal ossuary. We can also see there rupestrian anthropomorphic graves (evoking by their shape a human being) of the Early Middle Ages.

The mural painting depicts the Lord of Saint-Floret and his family. It is represented at the Palais de Chaillot.
It was on this hill, the Chastel, that Neolithic men came to settle, followed by the Celts, the Gallo-Romanesque, and then the first Christians. Ancient remains prove their passage. The top of the hill has always been considered sacred and it is there that men built their sanctuary.
